![]() ![]() There are a number of ways this table can be populated. 1 Roseberry Avenue, Birkenhead, Auckland, New Zealand. From this, we can display any of these four "places" whenever they appear in the GEDCOM data, without ever re-entering coordinate data, whether in any of these forms: You can if you wish add level 4, in your case '1 Roseberry Avenue". So, for example, your place of Birkenhead, Auckland, New Zealand will be stored as level 0 = New Zealand level 1 (to parent NZ) = Auckland Level 3 (to parent Auckland) = Birkenhead. It stores a linked hierarchy of place names, with associated coordinates. ![]() ![]() In webtrees a separate "placelocations" table is created just for the GM module. The reason for that is simple - they create unnecessary information in the GEDCOM file, as they would need duplicating every time the same place appears. Webtrees does not use the LAT/LONG tags from the GEDCOM data directly. Kevin, I've been thinking some more about your issue.īefore delving into complex coding solutions, I think there might be a far easier way that already exists.įirst, I should explain how the Google Maps module works in webtrees, as it is very different from how (I think) RM4 does it. But I was wondering if there was something else I could do to avoid all that extra work. The workaround for me of course is to move all my 'Place Details' data to the 'Place' field, so that there are 4 levels of hierarchy, and then Googlemaps would work for me as designed. Perhaps another way to explain my issue is to say that the Address field in webtrees has ended up with all my Geocoded data from the GEDCOM import, but I haven't found a way to get this to work with the Googlemaps addin. The 'Place Details' gets imported as 'Address' in webtrees I have noticed. However, the 'Place Details' field is more precise, and has the additional description of Fulham Road which was geocoded to the exact physical location. These do not work in webtrees Googlemaps, because webtrees recognises my place as Fulham, London, England (correctly) and this was not geocoded in the RM4 'Place' before import. RM4 has the concept of 'Place Details' which seems to be an additional field separate from Place, where I have geocoded location co-ordinates. One of the features that I think webtrees is superb with but is not working for me yet is the Googlemaps feature. I have imported a GEDCOM from Roots Magic v4. I have just come across webtrees for the first time and think it's future potential is huge. ![]()
